Itinerario
- We begin our journey early in the morning, departing Cusco and traveling south through San Sebastián and San Jerónimo before reaching the shores of Wacarpay Lake. From here, the road follows a scenic route toward Huambutio, crossing into Huancarani and continuing through rolling valleys and traditional settlements until we arrive in the charming town of Paucartambo. Around 8:30 AM we stop for a delicious and energizing breakfast at Q’inty Nature Café–Restaurant, an ideal start before venturing deeper into the high Andes.
- After breakfast, the road begins a steady ascent through a series of ecological zones where the landscape transforms dramatically. As we approach elevations near 4,700 meters, vast stretches of puna grasslands open before us, along with sweeping mountain views and fresh high-altitude air. Along the route it is common to observe alpacas and llamas grazing freely, mountain geese gliding above, and clusters of hardy shrubs growing beside crystalline streams that carve through the ravines. All of this unfolds under the presence of the Apus, the sacred mountain spirits revered by Andean communities.
- We eventually reach the area of Pampa K’asa and continue onward to the community of Chua Chua, a traditional high-Andean settlement surrounded by circular stone corrals, or kanchas, and inhabited by herders who maintain ancestral customs passed down for centuries. Here, a Paq’o—an Andean spiritual priest—welcomes the group and leads a profound Gratitude Ceremony dedicated to Pachamama and the protective mountain spirits. Lasting approximately three hours, this ritual invites every participant to connect deeply with the Andean worldview and the spiritual purity of Q’ero territory.
- After this meaningful experience, we enjoy a box lunch accompanied by coca and muña herbal infusions, traditional remedies that help with acclimatization and relaxation. We then spend an hour learning about Q’ero textiles, observing their ancient weaving techniques, symbolic patterns, and the exceptional craftsmanship behind each handmade piece.
- In the afternoon we begin our return, descending once more toward Paucartambo and continuing onward to Cusco, where we arrive in the late afternoon or evening, enriched by a day of culture, spirituality, and breathtaking Andean landscapes.
